Punch-Out!! isn't really about reflexes — it's about reading. Every opponent is a puzzle with a tell, and Little Mac's job is to learn the pattern and punish the wind-up.
It launched in 1987 as Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!!; when Nintendo's license with Tyson lapsed in 1990, the final boss became the fictional Mr. Dream. Both versions live in collections today, and the cast — Glass Joe, King Hippo's open-mouth weak spot, Bald Bull's charging Bull Rush — is unforgettable.
Beating Tyson (or Mr. Dream) was a genuine schoolyard badge of honor. Few games make 8-bit characters feel this alive.
